Extended Single Crochet Textures
The stitch patterns in this technique are based on the linen (moss) stitch and use the extended single crochet stitch, which replaces some of the single crochet stitches to create the texture: from delicate lines to bold ribbings and various honeycomb patterns.
The stitch patterns presented in the New Ways with Crochet book are arranged from the simplest to more complex ones, introducing the technique in a logical way and allowing you to practice different ways of working the extended single crochet stitch: straight, diagonal, grouped by two and worked into a one stitch at the same time.
The extended single crochet (esc) stitches are always worked on RS rows and in stitches two rows below. Depending on their placement, esc stitches can be vertical or angled diagonally to the left or right.
The esc stitches are either worked through the legs of the sc or the top V of the esc in a spike manner.
The esc stitches are always worked in front of the chain space of previous row. When esc is complete, that chain space should be left behind st and not be covered by it.

If you like the look, but not the colors, check out the last page, which has additional color layouts for the yoke as well as a blank template for you to try out your own color combinations.

Caramella shawl combines textured ribbing, delicate lace, and bold crochet cables, with a beautiful textured edging to finish.
This pattern features my signature crochet cable technique - simple yet striking. It uses only the most basic stitches - variations of single crochet and chains - to create richly textured, beautifully interwoven cables.
