My New Work Rhythm
I have plenty of projects on my hook, all at different stages, starting from nothing more than a bare idea.
The challenge is that many of them require endless swatching, calculations, trying things out, and starting over. At the end of these working sessions, I often have nothing to show.
At the same time, I have projects that only need one thing: to be crocheted. But somehow, sitting down and simply crocheting always felt like a luxury I didn't deserve. As a result, I struggled with both groups of projects.
This week, I decided to try a different approach, and surprisingly, it worked. I simply divided these two types of projects between different days.
One day is dedicated to research, math, endless swatching, experiments, and yarn everywhere. By the end of the day, I may still have nothing to show, and that's completely fine, because that isn't the goal of that day.
The next day, I switch to the projects that have already taken shape and simply crochet them as much as I have time for. Oh, the feeling is such a relief. No guilt at all!
Then the next day, I return to the ideas and projects that need preparation before I can actually crochet them.
And I do love this part of work, I don't mind spending hours in Excel sheets or endlessly trying different stitch combinations to create a new stitch. But it felt heavy to spend time on research, while thinking about all the projects that were already in progress but not moving. It felt like I was pulled in two directions at once.
Now, these days have their own place in my schedule, and I no longer expect visible results from invisible work. And that made the visible work much more enjoyable too. ◍•ᴗ•◍
Just wanted to share this in case it helps someone else! Maybe you also have different kinds of projects:
the fun crocheting,
the unfinished ones (blocking, weaving in ends, that long boring edging...),
or the ones that are still waiting for yarn choices and swatches, but you feel guilty starting them while there are so many unfinished ones.
If having all of them mixed together feels like pressure, maybe try dividing them between different days. It worked much better than I expected. :)
