Crochet in Mohair: Replay Scarf Pattern

I could not imagine a more satisfying project for me than the Replay shawls I published in January, but these scarves have stolen my heart. ❤︎

They became my February obsession: the same stitch, but with a different yarn (mohair!) and so much joy in the process.

I have used mohair before, and although the finished pieces were incredibly beautiful, it was always a pain to crochet.

Holding mohair together with another yarn usually makes the process smoother, but (to me) the stitches always looked better in mohair alone. So I used to accept a bit of struggle in exchange for beauty.

But not in case of these scarves! The process is very comfortable and these stitches truly shine in this combination.

I usually say “use any yarn you like” for my designs, and that still applies. But if you have a chance to try mohair held together with a laceweight yarn in this pattern (or in the Replay shawls), I really recommend it.

I made two samples of the Replay scarf:

wide and straight at the edges
and narrow one with the pointed ends.

Each version has very balanced yarn usage. For the yellow scarf I used one 50g skein of Malabrigo Silkpaca paired with two 25g skeins of Mohair (100g total).

For the wide blue version, I used 2 skeins of Silkpaca and 4 skeins of Mohair (200g total). Just look at this length!

And imagine the feel… the fabric is so fluffy and gentle!

Though you can use any yarn you like, of course! :D
The Replay shawls are worked in a sport/DK weight 100% merino wool and are a great example of how this stitch pattern looks in a more classic yarn.

I feel very happy each time I come up with stitches that work well with non-traditional yarns for crochet and meet all three of my expectations:

look beautiful
are easy to work
and create a fluid, soft fabric

These are real gems to me, as they widen the possibilities of crochet.
